Q&A: Why does Amazon require a marketplace seller’s bank account information in addition to credit card info?

Why does Amazon require a marketplace seller’s bank account information in addition to credit card info?
I just listed some textbooks for sale and they need both bank account and credit card information. I was wondering why this is so, since I’ve been told that credit card information is sufficient for receiving funds. Could anybody with seller experience verify if this is safe?
